Federal and state aid regulations and laws require institutions to establish a Cost of Attendance (COA) for each student receiving any kind of financial aid or student support. COA is derived from direct costs such as tuition, fees, housing, and food and indirect costs such as books, supplies, personal miscellaneous expenses, and transportation costs. Institutions use the Student Aid Index as calculated by the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a student's COA to determine the student's financial need.
Cost of Attendance (COA) minus (-) Student Aid Index (SAI) equals (=) Financial Need

Advisory Committees:
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana uses advisory committees as an essential communication link between the College and the community. Advisory committees provide vital input and help disseminate information to outside agencies and individuals. Advisory committees represent major instructional areas and are comprised of individuals who are experts in their fields and provide a broad spectrum of technical expertise and management. The principle mission of each committee is to provide advisory functions concerning course content, laboratory and shop design, and program development. Advisory committees ensure quality and help implement improvement in programs, supporting student recruitment and graduate placement.
UAHT is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA), 3005 Center Green Drive Suite 130, Boulder, CO 80301, Phone: 720-680-1600, Website: https://nc-sara.org
https://nc-sara.org/professional-licensure-directory
NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary education.
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) establishes a state-level reciprocity process that will support the nation in its efforts to increase the educational attainment of its people by making state authorization:
- more efficient, effective, and uniform regarding necessary and reasonable standards of practice that could span states.
- more effective in dealing with quality and integrity issues that have arisen in some online/ distance education offerings; and
- less costly for states and institutions and, thereby, the students they serve.
Distance learning students from out of state with complaints should try to resolve them through the UAHT grievance process and then appeal to ADHE if the complaint is not resolved. Here is the ADHE grievance form: https://adhe.edu/students-parents/student-grievance-form Additional NC-SARA Complaint information can be found here. To learn more about NC-SARA, click here.

Assistance Available from Federal, State, Local, and Institutional Programs
- Grants and Scholarships - Financial aid that does not have to be repaid (unless you withdraw from school). Grants and scholarships can be need-based or non-need-based.
- Work-Study - This is a program in which the student works to earn money to help pay for educational expenses. The federal work-study program is a need-based program.
UAHT participates in the following federal financial aid programs. Click on the link below for a description of each aid program. Students apply for federal financial aid programs by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and being eligible for federal financial aid programs. Perkins Loans, SEOG, and Federal Work-Study funds are limited and are generally awarded to the students with the greatest financial need. Students must make satisfactory academic progress (SAP) each year to continue to receive federal financial aid. Students are encouraged to know the policy and requirements for SAP.
- Pell Grant (need-based)
- Federal Work-Study (need-based)
- Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (need-based)
The Financial Aid Division of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education administers most of the state financial aid programs for Arkansas, including the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and Arkansas Governor’s Scholarship. Some programs are need-based, and some are non-need-based. Students apply for state aid by completing the SAMS scholarship application at ADHE.edu.
Students will find a number of funding opportunities beyond federal financial aid, state aid, and institutional aid programs, but it takes time to search out those opportunities. Many local organizations provide scholarships and grants, so students are encouraged to research opportunities in their local community. Scholarships may be one-time awards or scholarships that are renewable for two or more years.
Scholarship agencies vary widely by scholarship amount and eligibility criteria, such as college major, intended career, research interests, academic excellence, volunteer experience, hometown/state, or parent's employers.
Reputable scholarship search sites include Big Future and FastWeb, two nationwide scholarship search engines. We encourage you to utilize multiple search engines in your search for scholarship funding.
Be cautious regarding organizations that charge a fee to help you find scholarships. Most legitimate scholarship searches are free. However, some professional organizations require membership in their organization as part of the eligibility requirements. In this case, the membership fee should allow you many benefits in addition to scholarship eligibility.
