Hope Collegiate Academy Senior Receives Prestigious Engineering Scholarship
May 7, 2024
Axel Yhoss, a senior at the Hope Collegiate Academy, has received a prestigious Engineering Career Awareness Program (ECAP) Scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Only 85 ECAP scholarships are awarded each year. The ECAP program is designed to recruit and retain students who are underrepresented in the field of engineering and to give these students the support they need to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to succeed. The scholarship covers all major college expenses up to $5,000 per year (tuition, fees, room and board, and books) after other scholarships and grants have been awarded. Axel said it was a huge honor to receive this scholarship as an underrepresented person in the engineering field, and he hopes it will motivate others to pursue their dreams in whatever field they wish to enter.
The ECAP program provides financial assistance to qualifying students, but ECAP is much more than a scholarship. Starting with a three-week summer bridge program and continuing through graduation and beyond, ECAP students become part of a family and are guided on a path to success. “The financial support from the ECAP scholarship program will certainly help alleviate the stress of having to pay for my degree, but it will also help me be part of a group of people who will support one another and help each other succeed throughout our time at the U of A,” Yhoss said.
After graduating this May with his high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree from the Hope Collegiate Academy, Axel plans to major in Computer Engineering with a concentration in Cybersecurity.
Please join everyone at the Hope Collegiate Academy and UAHT in congratulating Axel Yhoss on this remarkable accomplishment.
